Burroughs L7000 (1969-1974)

Burroughs electric mechanical book keeping. National cash register also had a similar machine. We used a Burroughs L7000 in the family wholesale grocery. The machine operated by changing the bar for general ledger, payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable. The L7000 did a reasonable job of providing a complete set of books. It includes accounts receivable and account payable – inspite of all the Mickey Mouse with different bars. Remember this is before digital.

Around that time, Burroughs were panicking badly over the huge success of the IBM System 3, and computer companies were tasked with coming up with a competitor for it.

After selling the wholesale grocery I took a sales job with burroughs. I never sold a machine!
